SaskEnergy Sets New Record for Gas Usage
Christmas and New Year's, Sask Energy has announced a new record for gas usage. Daily natural gas consumption in the province has set another new record of 1.50 PetaJoules (PJ) of natural gas. This record, set in the 24-hour period between 9:00 a.m. December 29th and 9:00 a.m. December 30th, breaks the previous record set on December 26th, 2017. These records surpass the 1.33 PJ record from the winter of 2016/2017. The 1.50 PJ natural gas consumption record is due to the extreme cold temperatures, along with high natural gas consumption from customers, especially industrial customers and power plants. A PetaJoule is a unit of measurement equivalent to one million GigaJoules (GJ) of natural gas – the average home in Saskatchewan consumes about 102 GJ of natural gas annually.
