Impaired Driving Still an Issue in Saskatchewan
Despite increased fines for impaired driving in Saskatchewan, numerous tickets were issued across the province over the holiday season. Between December 24 and January 1, a total of 21 drivers were charged with Impaired Operation over 80mg% of a Motor Vehicle with no individuals refusing a breath sample. Meanwhile, 8 motorists received an alcohol-related roadside suspension. This compares to 2016 stats of the same time frame where 29 drivers were charged with Impaired Operatio and 14 individuals receiving an alcohol-related roadside suspension.
RCMP state that although these statistics are an improvement over last year, Saskatchewan RCMP would like to remind citizens that even one impaired driver is too many, and encourage everyone to plan a safe ride home, no matter what time of year it is.
